Help us End CTE

Through education and prevention programs, and research with our Global Brain Bank partners, we’re working tirelessly to End CTE.

THE CHALLENGE

CTE Is the Only Neurodegenerative Disease That Is Entirely Preventable

For years, many sports organizations refused to recognize that their sports cause CTE, slowing vital prevention reforms. In 2022, CLF and global collaborators published a groundbreaking review of the world’s CTE research, concluding that evidence is overwhelming that CTE is caused by repetitive head impacts. Following this, the NIH joined the CDC, NHS, and major sports leagues in formally recognizing causation. Researchers and clinicians can join our advocacy efforts by clicking here.

CLF is now urging all global sports and scientific communities to update their position papers to reflect this understanding and help educate the public.

PREVENTION

Changing the Game to Protect the Brain

Thanks to years of research and advocacy, CTE causation is widely understood. However, many still do not realize this disease is preventable. In 2023, CLF and the BU CTE Center published the first ever CTE Prevention Protocol, a simple playbook with recommendations for reducing the number and severity of head impacts proven to cause the degenerative brain disease.

The opportunity to prevent CTE also inspired our education program Stop Hitting Kids in the Head, which aims to eliminate repetitive head impacts in youth sports. Our hope is that if we can dramatically reduce the number of head impacts in sports — and anywhere else they occur — we can make significant strides toward our mission.

RESEARCH

Racing Toward a Cure by 2040

Brain bank and clinical research are our best hope to diagnose, treat, and cure CTE by 2040. We fund programs focused on women, the military, and athletes. Through the CLF Global Brain Bank and Clinical Research Registry, we unite researchers and connect participants to vital studies. Why do we fight?

Take it from the families who have lost a loved one to CTE.
